Manages ITS support teams responsible for open systems application administration, enterprise job scheduling and data center operations. Directs 24X7X365 delivery of support services, ensuring and advocating for the stability and performance of client-facing and/or revenue generating applications. Leads a team of full-time and contract associates, including multiple direct reports. Works with multiple disciplines across ITS and the KofC business units.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manages staff responsible for the following functions Open Systems Applications Support, Mainframe Application Support and Data Center Operations. Responsible for staff/employee administration (staffing recommendations, performance appraisals, coaching and counseling, work assignments, training, resource planning, etc.).
  • Oversees day to day support and service delivery related to the aforementioned functions. Assists in defining internal service level agreements and operating level agreements between support teams. Leads internal meetings to address service level issues and planning. Directs major ITS incident events acting as Major Incident Manager in rotation with other SSS managers.
  • Manages/oversees project related activities associated with his/her functional responsibilities. Encompasses working with project management professionals (internal and external), as well as self-management of less complex project activities in accordance with established project management processes and procedures.
  • Manages vendor relations for the department; assists with vendor identification and selection, contract negotiation and statement of work (SOW) reviews. Manages licensing and service agreements with vendors; ensures hardware and software is appropriately licensed. Meets with vendors and leads contract, licensing and service level discussions.
  • Evaluates and recommends technology solutions; participates in decisions regarding purchase and selection, in-house development and modification, assessment and implementation. Responsible for the management of purchase requests and invoices related to the technology. Works closely with customers, business analysts and team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions.
  • Determines overall objectives for organization and contributes to formulation of operational, tactical and strategic plans related to the functions he/she is responsible for.
  • Adheres to ITS/SSS policy, process and procedures and proactively seeks opportunities to enhance existing ITS ITIL processes (service requests, incident and problem management, change management, etc.).

Skills Qualifications

  • Significant experience leading teams responsible for providing IT customer support/services
  • Computer operations, job scheduling/production support and open systems application management/administration
  • Systems analysis, design and solid understanding of development, quality assurance and integration methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate/manage meetings with multiple participants representing different functions/disciplines
  • Sound judgment in decision making
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience designing and implementing ITIL practices
  • Life insurance enterprise products: Ingenium, Life70, IDM, AWD, etc.
  • Microsoft Office Products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Requires in depth technical expertise of information technology functions incumbent is responsible for managing


  • BS or BA in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent combination of experience and training
  • 10+ years IT experience including insurance industry experience and supervisory responsibility or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • ITIL Foundation certificate Preferred:
  • Advanced ITIL certifications desired.

Physical Demands

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for a majority of the workday.
