Overview

The Sr. Lakehouse Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying data vault models, Snowflake SQL, Snowflake data views. The role also includes documenting and updating the Data Warehouse vault monitoring strategies, audit and controls and production release processes. The primary objective of this role is to ensure that the Data Lake House and related solutions are running effectively and meeting the business’s needs around data.    

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead Lakehouse projects related to Snowflake and Data Vault modeling.
  • Should have a strong grasp of SQL, as the Snowflake database uses this language for database queries and data views. They should be able to write complex queries and optimize them for performance.
  • The Snowflake database is a cloud-native platform, familiarity with cloud services, particularly Azure is required.
  • Snowflake-specific knowledge: They should be well-versed in Snowflake's unique features, like its handling of data (i.e. semi-structured) and its approach to data sharing and security.
  • Designs, develop and test data models, including domain data models, MDM, data lakes, data vaults and modeling supporting various operational requirements.
  • Supports the design of current and future Lakehouse solutions, including overall design, technology stacks, data vault modeling methodology, data movement, and testing.
  • Contributes to the organization's overall information/data management strategy, ensuring that it is an integrated part of the overall business strategy.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the areas of Snowflake, Data Vault Architecture, Data Movement, and Data Vault Modeling.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data applications including the data, software, and infrastructure architectures.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and mentor team members.

Skills Qualifications

  • Demonstrates a strong aptitude in SQL, data architecture, data vault methodologies, and industry trends.
  • Experience in developing and delivery initiatives including the internal development of EB&IM tools.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and cross functional collaboration skills.
  • Past data strategy and quality experience within the insurance industry.
  • Expert knowledge of the enterprise uses of data and end-to-end data flows within the enterprise.

Systems/Technical Knowledge:

  • Understanding of cloud Lakehouse technologies: Snowflake and Data Vault modeling experience
  • Database and application development experience in relational databases i.e. Snowflake and cloud technologies
  • Data Vault Modeling, Data Warehousing, Dimensional Modeling, Data Modeling for Data Vault & Metadata Management
  • Working knowledge of data security frameworks, data quality frameworks, metadata management and data catalogs, and data governance frameworks

Education

  • BA or BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
  • Experience: 10-15 years related work experience in the design and development of database management systems or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Compensation

The wage range for this role takes into account a broad array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.  The range below applies as long as the work is performed in Connecticut; the Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the wage range if the position is performed in another location.  At the Knights of Columbus, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $126,100-220,500.
