Overview
The Business Analyst elicits, analyzes, specifies, and validates the needs of business stakeholders. This includes understanding, documenting, and evaluating business processes through interviewing stakeholders. The Business Analyst elicits, gathers compiles and documents user requirements and translates them into functional requirements for technology solutions with an eye to improving processes and systems, enhancing their sustainability, and delivering maximum return on investment. The Business Analyst must have a thorough understanding of the business, functional, and technical aspects of the applications used within the portfolio they support.
Core Responsibilities
- Proven leadership in engaging the business and IT partnerships
- Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) with stakeholders at all levels.
- Conduct interviews to elicit, analyze and make recommendations regarding user requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, site visits, process maps, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods.
- Conduct investigations for strategy studies, business requirements specifications and feasibility studies.
- Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards.
- Translate business requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers/the project team.
- Document and communicate the results of analysis performed.
- Develop and utilize standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirements specifications.
- Create and evaluate process models/maps, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to anticipate requirements, uncover areas for improvement, and elicit requirements for change.
- Evaluate and map business processes
- Lead ongoing reviews of business processes and develop optimization strategies.
- Develop and conduct peer reviews of the business requirements to ensure that requirement specifications are correctly interpreted.
- On-Call and/or after-hours work required.
Skills Qualifications
Required:
- Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language
- Ability to elicit, document and translate business requirements of packaged solutions
- Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development
- Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- Ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine acceptable solutions
- Excellent documentation skills
- Experience creating detailed reports and giving presentations
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills
- Exceptional analytical and statistical skills with the ability to apply them to systems issues and products as required
- Ability to research and understand packaged solution upgrades both minor and major. Translates the technical upgrade documentation into business terms the end-user can understand to enable prioritization and decision making. Makes recommendations on these upgrades
- Experience in in Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid environments
Education
Required:
- BS or BA with emphasis in computer science, information systems or business administration
- 5-7 years related work experience as a business analyst
Preferred:
- Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA) and/or Certified Business Analysis professions (CBAP) preferred
- Hexure’s Firelight eApplications experience
Physical Demands
Compensation
The wage range for this role takes into account a broad array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The range below applies as long as the work is performed in Connecticut; the Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the wage range if the position is performed in another location. At the Knights of Columbus, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $69,600-115,000.
