Overview
Work with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure subordinates (councils, assemblies, and chapters) are adhering to filing requirements and tax compliance. Work in a team setting to educate councils on their relationship with home corporations.

Core Responsibilities
- Analyzes and interprets state and federal guidelines, identifies potential tax compliance risks for our local councils; works with communications under the guidance of counsel to notify local council officers of any relevant changes.
- Performs heavy research of state regulations and statutes as they pertain to banking and state registration requirements of unincorporated associations. i.e. California Franchise Tax Board, SunBiz, etc.
- Works closely with local council officers in navigating the process of obtaining and reinstating an Employer Identification Number (EIN) through an IRS platform; facilitates state registration where required; heavy contact with state and federal agencies to ensure tax compliance.
- Performs extensive research on multifaceted relationship between local councils and home corporations with a concentration on the tax component; actively participates in team meetings and is prepared to present research findings in a group setting.
- Participate and support the Council Governance Excellence Team (CGET) with research and tax information. Work closely with Fraternal and Membership departments.
- Works with councils to define financial relationship between the council and the home corporation; encourages relationship building and unification between council officers.
- Performs initial financial investigation of council and prepares council officers for discussion with Investments team on Asset Advisors and Donor Advised Funds options.
- Cover for Supreme Advocate Administrative Assistant in his/her absence.
- Reviews and tracks subpoenas; gathers information and prepares responses for inquiring agency.
- Prepare for and attend State Deputy meetings.
- Order supplies for department.

Education
Required:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Minimum 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of training and experience
Preferred:
- Fraternal knowledge a plus
Compensation
The wage range for this role takes into account a broad array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The range below applies as long as the work is performed in Connecticut; the Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the wage range if the position is performed in another location. At the Knights of Columbus, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $69,600-115,000.
