Overview

The Manager, Data Planning and Management will oversee data requirements management, data architecture, data modeling, data flow, and data validation & testing. This role requires expertise in modern data modeling methodologies, data testing practices, and architectural design to ensure that the organization's data ecosystem meets business objectives. The Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Enterprise Architecture and Data Lakehouse teams, Data and Analytics CoE, and business customers to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a team of data architects and analysts to ensure technical standards are upheld. 
  • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative work environment, enabling team members to take on advanced technical responsibilities. 
  • Lead the design and implementation of the enterprise data model, encompassing domain data models, Master Data Management (MDM), data lakes, and models for operational and analytical use cases. 
  • Develop scalable solutions for data lakehouse, warehouse and data mart architectures, ensuring alignment with business objectives and system requirements. 
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive data testing practice, addressing accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Implement frameworks to monitor, measure, and improve the quality of data assets across systems. 
  • Define and enforce data architecture standards for data storage, movement, and transformation, incorporating big data technologies and cloud-based solutions. 
  • Assist in the sourcing, hiring, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Coach and mentor team members.
  • Design end-to-end data flows across enterprise systems, ensuring security, scalability, and performance. 
  • Develop architectural roadmaps to guide the organization’s data strategy, aligning it with broader business objectives. 
  • On-Call and/or after-hours work required.

Skills Qualifications

Required:

  • Expertise in enterprise data modeling, including dimensional modeling, Data Vault 2.0, and big data modeling methodologies. 
  • Deep understanding of data lakes, data warehouses, and data movement across enterprise systems. 
  • Proficiency in modern metadata management tools and techniques. 
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases, cloud-based platforms, and big data technologies. 
  • Experience with data lakehouse architectures and data movement frameworks. 
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical teams and foster a culture of innovation. 
  • Strong skills in prioritizing and managing multiple initiatives in dynamic environments. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop data strategies tailored to insurance workflows and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated interest and aptitude in architecture, data, and industry trends.
  • Experience managing initiatives including the internal development of information management tools.
  • Expert knowledge of the methodologies involved in the architecture, modeling, and use of data.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Sound judgment in decision making.

Education

Required:

  • BA or BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
  • 10-15 years related work experience

Compensation

The wage range for this role takes into account a broad array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.  The range below applies as long as the work is performed in Connecticut; the Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the wage range if the position is performed in another location.  At the Knights of Columbus, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $126,100 - 220,500.
