Overview

We are seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented paralegal to join our highly collaborative in-house law practice. The ideal candidate should be adept at multitasking and client support and ideally will have previous experience working for a law firm or corporate legal team.

The Legal Department actively supports the fraternal and charitable work of the Knights of Columbus, whose mission is to support over two million members by providing financial security and member benefits and to offer charitable aid by contributing money, supplies, and services to those in need.

Core Responsibilities

  • Legal holds (issuance, management, and training)
  • Collecting, compiling, and organizing information and legal documentation for attorney review
  • Researching case-related legal and factual issues
  • Assisting with the review of legal pleadings
  • Interviewing clients, witnesses, and experts
  • Acting as a liaison among parties for scheduling and sharing information
  • Organizing and managing documents, including creating spreadsheets and retrieval systems
  • Coordinating the collection, review, and production of documents in response to discovery and other requests
  • Assisting attorneys as needed with litigation-related tasks (e.g., email and document reviews)
  • Summarizing transcripts.
  • Compiling information and preparing statistics, charts, graphs, and other summaries as needed
  • Uses legal software and databases to assist lawyers
  • Assisting with business, compliance, and legal due diligence research
  • Assisting with employment contract and contractor agreement updates and employee bonus plans
  • Surveying national and international laws and regulations

Education

Required:

  • Associate’s degree from an ABA-approved paralegal education program, bachelor’s degree, or Master of Legal Studies (MLS) degree
  • Paralegal certification, such as designation as a NALA Certified Paralegal or Advanced Certified Paralegal, National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) Registered Paralegal, or National Association for Legal Support Professionalism (NALS) Professional Paralegal
  • Past work experience and training under the supervision of an attorney preferred

Authorizationto work in the United States is required.
