Overview

The Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for core communications and marketing efforts for the Saint John Paul II National Shrine, especially its retreat house function.  The manager supervises the Specialist – Marketing and Communication and collaborates with other Outreach and Visitor Services staff.  The role includes practical and timely writing of press releases and promotional materials, along with implementing marketing campaigns, social media strategy, and website postings.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manages the Specialist – Marketing and Communications, which includes recruitment, onboarding, training, and appraisal.
  • Creates and implements communication plans for Shrine and retreat house events and functions, including flyers, press releases, media campaigns, etc.
  • Provides quality materials for general promotion of the Shrine and Retreat House
  • Designs and implements marketing and outreach plans to both known targets and the general population, with a special focus on retreat groups; collaborates with Outreach & Visitor Services Staff in this function.
  • Participate in executive team meetings as needed, and collaborate closely with other departments, particularly Mission and Ministry.
  • Addresses any communication crises.

Skills Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of the life and legacy of Saint John Paul II.
  • Some leadership/management experience
  • Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

 

Preferred:

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Catholic Church protocol and Knights of Columbus protocol.

Education

  • BA or BS degree.
  • Three to five years of experience in a communications and marketing role or equivalent combination of training/ experience.

Compensation

The wage range for this role takes into account a broad array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.  The range below applies as long as the work is performed in Connecticut; the Knights of Columbus reserves the right to adjust the wage range if the position is performed in another location.  At the Knights of Columbus, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $112,000 - 190,500.
